New favorite song. Always great to discover new music and sometimes I wonder at how long the band or artist has toiled in obscurity. Neon Trees have a brilliant sound and they are getting some decent air play here in the UK. This morning I delayed my getting ready for work just so I could listen to them before facing the day. There’s a commercial for Clarks shoes that has been on heavy rotation on whatever channels I’ve been watching lately. If features kids (it’s a commercial for Clarks kids shoes) that are supersized and running all about the town/city/park/schoolyard, towering over the buildings and play equipment. It’s a cute, charming advert and if I had the money and cared enough, it might even induce me to buy the shoes for my kids. But, I’m not rich and my kids aren’t with me at the moment (insert extreme sadface here).

Anyways, the music for the commercial is the get-stuck-in-your-head awesomeness that is They Might Be Giants. The song is Birdhouse in Your Soul and if you didn’t grow up in the 90′s, how sad for you. Because back in the day (oh how very old I am) bands and musicians came out with some wacky shit (to which Lady Gaga is taking ‘inspiration’ from, and I love La Gaga, but go back to the originals and see what she’s taking notes from).

For some reason, since discovering this commercial, TMBG have been featuring heavily in my playlists and every night it gets played (and also Istanbul, which is how I came to stumble upon yesterdays video, which is sheer genius). We just play it over and over and over, on repeat the joy doesn’t lessen diminish. It’s now become a favorite song all over again, and it’s been fun to rediscover songs from my youth. (Serious, how old am I? Should I just go ahead and get a blue rinse?)

I wanted to post something else today, but I couldn’t find a picture to go along with it. And the post really needs this picture to make sence, well not make sense but rather to illustrate my awesomeness.

Instead I’m gonna leave you with this tidbit…

Sometimes I fill my mouth with mouthwash. I then proceed to brush my teeth with a mouth full of Listerine. Because in my mind it’s like killing two birds with one mouth tingling stone.

New found funny type stuff

It’s been a busy summer, but I won’t bore you with details, it’s very domestic and nice and fluffy. Rather, I’ll tell you how I’m overcoming sadness (at the summer ending and my kids going back to the States). I’ve found a very funny blog (which I’m sure many have already discovered and I’m climbing on the bandwagon ages after rest of the mob) in Hyperbole and a Half. Allie of Hyperbole and a Half is mad, but in the best possible way.

I’ve spent the last couple days reading through her archives. (Just typed archives and read it as ‘anchovies’, it must be getting late.) (Also, yes I archive stalk blogs. Who doesn’t, hell, I’ve archive stalked Dooce at least twice.)

Anyway, Hyperbole and a Half is brilliant. In a time where I’m a little down in the dumps, it’s been nice to full on laugh out loud. Laugh so much and giggle and even once, laugh so hard that I forgot I was laughing and switch mid-chuckle to weeping, because apparently I’m mental. (WTF is up with that sentence? I’m not even going to try to edit that one, sorry dudes, you’re stuck with it. Also, WTF is up with laugh/crying. My emotions are slightly helter skelter but that’s just messed up.)

Anyways, (Sorry for more parentheses but Stu, anyway will always have an ‘s’ on it. Soz.) Go and have a look-see at Allie and her funny drawings and funny stories. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

A few months back Stu played a song for me, which he said was wicked and amazing and added many other superlatives. It was Acapella by Kelis. For me, it was a bit of a grower. I thought it was good, but wasn’t convinced until after a few listens. But, then I got into the groove and it became a go to song when I wanted to dance about the house and sing along.

Recently Kelis released her second single from her Flesh Tone album and this one hit me full on. It has a great beat, catchy lyrics and in general will knock your socks off. Also, can the woman rock the costume change, jealous! *goes off in search of an indian headress that won’t make her ass look big*

A Snippet of Reality

Back in April we went to Bournemouth, it was one of the nicest trips we’ve ever taken. This video is proof that, if a camera has too many buttons I’ll invariably find the one I don’t want.

On the plus side, we now have one more bit of evidence to my odd and idiotic side. Actually, the evidence for my odd and idiotic side out ways any other side I may have. HA!

Hey, remember oncce upon a time I used to post a video each Friday. And that video would be a morsel of yumminess, keeping your belly full of musical happiness. Then I’d go off and have a life, leaving you to languish in a musical desert, how dare I! Well, fearless audio adventurer, I’ve returned (for today at least, ha!) and I’m dishing up a video that has been playing almost nonstop at my house for the last few days.

I’ve been a fan of the Hoosiers for the last few years, and their videos are practically guaranteed to satisfy. Videos by the Hoosiers are almost always 1) funny 2) well concieved and 3) flipping funny (so funny it counts twice). Their newest single, Choices, is catchy, dancy, kinda 80′s (in the best way) and when it comes on the tv, the volume is seriously kicked up (sorry neighbours). It’s also on heavy rotation on the ole ipod (it takes approxamitly 5 replays of it to get to work). So, I hope you enjoy it.
